CPR/FIRST AID

 

 

The Emergency Services Training unit of the Rutgers Division of Public Safety provides CPR and First Aid training for the general public and health care professionals. The courses below are open to everyone with an interest in them.


All courses will be held at the Rutgers Public Safety building at 55 Commercial Ave, Second Floor, in Room 231.

Course fees include textbooks and all training materials.

*The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials is an educational course does not represent outside course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fee charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for the AHA course material, do not represent income to the Association.

BLS for Healthcare Provider

 

Course Description
Designed for practitioners whose primary work environment is in a clinical setting or those providing direct patient care.  This is the most comprehensive credential, and it is often a prerequisite for advanced training courses.  Suggested participants include: physicians, dentists, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, medical or nursing assistants and other allied health professionals. A two year certification card is issued after the successful completion of this course.

Heartsaver AED
 

Course Description
The Heartsaver AED Course teaches CPR, AED use, relief of choking in adults and children, and infant CPR and relief of choking, and use of barrier devices for all ages.


Intended Audience

All lay responders
Firefighters, police, airline personnel, security guards, employees in the workplace, family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death, other lay rescuers who may have a need to respond to an emergency.

Heartsaver CPR
 

Course Description
Designed to teach lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and for choking adult, child and infant victims. Students also learn to recognize the warning signs of heart attack and stroke in adults and breathing difficulties in children.

 

Intended Audience
All lay rescuers
*Such as day-care employees, baby-sitters, firefighters, police, airline personnel, security guards family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death.

CPR for Family & Friends
 

Course Description
A course for the general public-parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts/uncles, friends, neighbors, babysitters, co-workers.  Both the Adult/Child and Infant will be covered. This is not a credential course.

 

Intended Audience
All  lay rescuers
Such as school children, family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death, and other laypersons who want to learn rescue skills for loved ones.

Heartsaver First Aid
 

Course Description
Heartsaver First Aid (General Principles, Medical Emergencies, and Injury Emergencies) and Environmental Emergencies.
Designed specifically for the general public and lay rescuers. Provides basic information and practical skills for us at home or the workplace.  An excellent course for workplace safety teams, security guards, day care staff, teachers, coaches, babysitters, civic groups, church organizations, etc. A two year certification card is issued after the successful completion of a Heartsaver First Aid Course.
