Fire Response

 

To Report a fire, smoke or odor of something burning, obtain an outside line and Dial 9-1-1.

In the Event of a FIRE, leave the immediate area. Close door behind you. Most doors are fire rated and will help contain the fire. Activate the building Fire Alarm. Alert others to the emergency while evacuating. Call 9-1-1 from your cell phone or a campus emergency phone. DO NOT STAY IN THE BUILDING. Let the 9-1-1 operator know all the information as to Location, what is on fire and any other information that can be helpful to the responders.  To request a Non-emergency incident you should call 732-932-7211 such as lock-outs. For Department personnel or inquiries call 723-932-4800.

 

The Emergency Services Response Division provides many different types of response services to all campuses. Emergency Services Response personnel are on duty 24 hours a day seven days a week. Response Personnel are trained firefighters, incident managers, emergency medical technicians, Hazardous-Material technicians, and instructors.

Response division responds to emergency calls such as fires, emergency medical, hazmat, motor vehicle accidents, persons trapped in elevators, and other hazardous conditions on and around the Rutgers campuses. The response division is partnered with Rutgers Environmental Health and Safety to provide hazardous materials response.

The Response division also performs non emergency tasks such as motor vehicle lockouts, event inspections, building tours; issue fire safety hot-work permits and investigate non emergency maintenance alarms.

Hot Work Permits Requests should be made to Dispatch & Communications Center at 732/932-7211, information such as type of work, location contact person and company or RU affiliation should be provided. A call back number should be provided. Intermittent smoke detector alarm not due to fire or smoke dial 732/932-7211 and report the location and problem with detector, such as frequency of activation.

 

Fire Safety Concerns (After Hours)
After hours fire safety concerns or hazardous conditions needing immediate attention should be given to DISPATCH & COMMUNICATIONS CENTER 732-932-7211. Provide as much information as possible. This can be items such as blocked exits, missing fire safety equipment or questions on Fire safety Rules and Regulations.
