The Department of Emergency
Services has seen an increase in accidental brush fires throughout the
state. Due to the dry, windy conditions experienced recently in our areas,
we ask you to observe the following precautions in an effort to reduce the
risk of accidental or unintentional fires at Rutgers:
· Do not discard cigarettes from moving vehicles; use ashtrays.
· Ensure cigarettes are fully extinguished and properly dispose of them in
approved receptacles. Decorative mulch and grass are easily ignited due to
current weather conditions.
· In accordance with university policy 60.1.10, Smoking Policy, smoking is
prohibited in university buildings, playing fields or other recreational
areas. Additionally, smoking is not permitted in areas deemed to be the main
entrance to buildings.
· Immediately report any smoke or fire condition to Rutgers Police by
calling 9-1-1 or one of the campus specific numbers listed below:
Camden Campus 856-225-6111
