Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Rutgers University Emergency Medical Services (RUEMS) provides exceptional emergency medical care to all patients without judgment of their situation while preserving their rights, privacy, and dignity. RUEMS is staffed with a combination of career and per diem Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).

RUEMS ambulance has been operational 24/7, 365 days a year since 1998. The ambulance and EMTs provide emergency medical services to Rutgers and the surrounding communities, and are often on standby for special and athletic events.

RUEMS coordinates event coverage at the Rutgers Stadium (2nd to Giants Stadium in seating) and other venues throughout the university.

To Request an Ambulance
  • Obtain an outside line and Dial 9-1-1
  • Provide information about the number of victim(s) such as age, weight, height, location type of illness or injury, past history of illness or injury, medications, or chemical exposure and anything else that may be helpful to responders
  • To request a non-emergency transport call 732-932-7211
Event Coverage

RUEMS can provide EMTs, ambulance standby’s, courtesy shuttles, courtesy carts, field response teams such as bike units, a Multi Casualty Incident Trailer, and/or a Decon Trailer.

Costs vary on the type of service(s) required and the number of personnel needed. To receive an estimate of what your university event or concert will need contact Captain William Jackson at 848-932-4800.

Billing Inquiries

For questions regarding event billing, standby billing or emergency medical care billing please call Manager Carol Nowitzke at 848-932-4800.

Reports can be obtained during normal business hours at the Rutgers Public Safety Building located at 55 Commercial Avenue in New Brunswick. Please Call ahead to ensure report is available and what you need to access it.
